Vatican on Ukraine diplomacy: "The results are rather limited"
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said the Holy See’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace in Ukraine have so far yielded very limited results.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the “Faith and Reason in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” conference in Rome, the Vatican official acknowledged that the Holy See’s peace efforts have yet to produce tangible results. At the same time, the cardinal stressed that the Vatican intends to continue pursuing its humanitarian diplomacy.
"The results are rather limited. The diplomacy of the Holy See, the diplomacy of sowing, does not produce a harvest,” Cardinal Parolin said. “So we hope that, by continuing to sow, one day, when God wills it, we may also reap.”
He added that the Vatican would continue its humanitarian work, “hoping this may open doors” to a ceasefire, peace negotiations, and dialogue.
The Vatican Secretary of State also spoke against attempts to isolate parties to the conflict and stressed the need to maintain direct communication with Moscow.
“It is important to establish some kind of channel where people can talk to one another, because “only by talking to each other can solutions be found,” he said.
Parolin also expressed hope that a “platform can be found where everyone feels safe and everyone can also grow in well-being and prosperity.”
As the UOJ reported, the Pope called for the “silencing of weapons” and for dialogue in Ukraine.
