Shevchuk criticizes Trump’s “so-called peace plan”
The UGCC head said he wants the “powers that be” to be moved by the pain and suffering of ordinary Ukrainians.
On December 21, 2025, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, criticized a peace plan currently being discussed by diplomats from the United States, Ukraine, and Russia in his video address.
The UGCC leader described the situation with Russian strikes in Odesa, the Black Sea region, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Kupiansk, and Huliaipole, stating that “the enemy has begun to change its tactics and each night chooses a new victim among our peaceful cities.”
Shevchuk expressed his hope that “once again the world will stand in solidarity with Ukraine, especially at a time when negotiations are underway regarding a so-called peace plan to end this war.”
He did not explain why he referred to the diplomatic efforts initiated by the United States as “so-called.” According to him, the UGCC wants “the powerful of this world to be imbued with the pain and suffering of ordinary Ukrainians.”
“We so deeply desire peace – not merely a signed piece of paper, but a space of life where one can live, have warmth and light, have a future, be protected, and have the opportunity to build one’s life,” the UGCC leader stated.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Shevchuk spoke out against the peace plan and called on Ukrainians not to give up territories.
