Novinsky says monk’s murder is result of inciting hatred against UOC
UOC Protodeacon Vadim Novinsky noted that the murder of Monk Varsонофий at the Holy Dormition Lavra is a manifestation of hatred, lawlessness, and persecution of the Church.
UOC Protodeacon and former People's Deputy Vadim Novinsky stated that the murder of Monk Varsanofiy (Turyansky) at the Holy Dormition Lavra of Svyatogorsk became one of the manifestations of the atmosphere of hatred, lawlessness, and persecution surrounding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He wrote about this on his Facebook page on the day of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
The fact that the monk was killed with particular cruelty, and two more residents of the monastery sustained serious injuries, "gives reason to think about the ritual nature of the murder," believes Fr. Vadim.
He described what happened as part of the reality in which Ukraine lives today: "lawlessness, death, trampling of basic freedoms, lies and hatred." The Protodeacon links the murder of the monk to the atmosphere of persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. "There is too much that is satanic in our current reality," he stated, adding that the authorities "gave the green light for the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church."
Speaking about the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, Vadim Novinsky stated that the current state of the country differs significantly from the future that, in his words, the participants in the declaration of independence in 1991 had envisioned. He listed among the contemporary problems the war, loss of territories, economic hardships, corruption, political persecution, and the persecution of the UOC. "We received formal independence without real sovereignty — a shell, external attributes, empty slogans. And — as a result — war," wrote the Protodeacon.
In conclusion, the UOC clergyman called for the anniversary of independence to be seen as an occasion for rethinking what has happened to Ukraine. According to him, the country needs peace, a revision of political and ideological approaches, and a return to an understanding of sovereignty. "The blood of the new martyr Varsanofiy is the answer to all these questions. As is the blood of Ukrainians shed in a senseless and deceitful war," he emphasized.
As the SPJ reported, Zelensky, congratulating the people on the 35th anniversary of the country's independence, stated that God is taking Ukraine's side.
