The silence of the authorities surrounding the murder at Svyatogorsk Lavra is shocking, – ex-MP
Ihor Mosiychuk expressed outrage that the authorities are maintaining silence surrounding the murder of a monk and the wounding of novices at Svyatogorsk Lavra.
Former Member of Parliament Ihor Mosiychuk stated that the leadership of Ukraine's law enforcement agencies has been maintaining silence for two days surrounding the murder of a monk at Svyatogorsk Lavra, calling what happened a most savage crime. He said this in an interview with journalist Shelest.
«Two days have passed – neither the Minister of Internal Affairs, nor the acting head of the SBU, nor the acting head of the National Police have said a word, have uttered a single word. A most savage crime,» the ex-MP said indignantly.
Mosiychuk drew attention to the fact that the attack occurred in a frontline zone under a military regime, several kilometers from the line of contact, where, in his words, «strangers do not walk.»
The silence of the authorities, the ex-MP believes, acts as a signal of impunity for the military: «God is not mocked – retribution will come regardless. And second – this is a signal to the military that it doesn't matter, you can do whatever you want.»
As a reminder: the attack on the brotherhood of Svyatogorsk Lavra took place on August 23, 2026, near the St. Nicholas Church in the upper part of the monastery. Monk Varsonofiy (in the world – Vasyl Turyansky) was killed; Monastic novice Hryhoriy and novice Andriy were left in serious condition in a Kharkiv hospital. The attackers remain unidentified; criminal proceedings are ongoing, and no suspects had been identified at the time of publication. The farewell to the murdered monk took place on August 25 in the Dormition Cathedral of the Lavra; he was buried behind the altar – next to two monastics who perished during the shelling in 2022.
