The murder at Svyatogorsk Lavra is true savagery, – Bondarenko
Political analyst Konstantin Bondarenko called those who attacked the monks of Svyatogorsk Lavra scoundrels.
Political analyst Konstantin Bondarenko, in an interview with blogger Alexander Shelest, stated that the murder of a monk at Svyatogorsk Lavra is a manifestation of permissiveness and brutalization in war.
“This is savagery. People are becoming savage. And, accordingly, in this situation, these scoundrels, whom they are trying to elevate to the rank of heroes, have today acquired a sense of total permissiveness. They think — we are living, perhaps, our last day, so let us make merry, so to speak. Human life has been devalued in their eyes,” Bondarenko stated.
The political analyst noted that everyone on the territory of Donetsk region who does not support the “party line” automatically becomes an enemy in the eyes of the attackers. “These people are not people — they are enemies, we are eradicating them,” — this is how Bondarenko described the mindset behind the violence. — “Didn’t respond correctly to ‘Glory to Ukraine’ — that means you get a knife.”
He also criticized the authorities for their silence regarding the murder at Svyatogorsk Lavra.
As a reminder, the attack on the brotherhood of Svyatogorsk Lavra of the UOC took place on August 23, 2026, at around 11:00 AM near the St. Nicholas church in the upper part of the monastery. Several residents of the monastery sustained stab wounds: monk Varsonofy was killed, novice monk Grigory (lung wound) and novice Andrey were hospitalized in serious condition at one of the hospitals in Kharkiv. Later, information emerged that the murdered monk had also sustained gunshot wounds.
