Meloni and Frederiksen stated that migrants must respect European values and the Christian heritage of the countries in which they live.

On August 10, 2026, the Prime Ministers of Italy and Denmark, Giorgia Meloni and Mette Frederiksen, called on migrants to respect European values and Christian heritage,  reports The European Conservative.

In “A joint message for Europe”, the heads of government declared that they do not accept uncontrolled migration. According to them, mass migration has increased pressure on public services and contributed to crime, including violent crime, drug dealing and sexual violence, while eroding citizens’ trust in governments and public institutions.

Meloni and Frederiksen emphasized that tightening migrant return rules alone is not enough. "Respect for our laws must go hand in hand with respect for European values," they stated, noting that this principle applies to both legal and illegal migration.

The Prime Ministers separately stressed the need to preserve Europe's cultural identity. "We are both proud of the Christian cultural heritage of Europe and we want to protect it," the statement reads. According to them, people who consider Europe their home must respect the values of the host countries and must not attempt to impose a way of life that is alien to Europeans.

Previously, Denmark and Italy initiated an appeal on migration issues, which was supported by 22 EU member states. European countries called for strengthened control over migration flows and for continued efforts to find new mechanisms for returning illegal migrants.

The UOJ previously reported that the European Parliament spoke out against the forced Islamization of children in Pakistan.
