Sweden calls for closure of mosques with Islamist propaganda
The Sweden Democrats demand the closure of mosques with radical preaching, an end to their funding, and the deportation of Islamists.
On August 4, 2026, the Sweden Democrats party called on authorities to close mosques where Islamism, antisemitism, and support for terrorism are preached, reports The European Conservative.
The party stated that Islamism represents one of the most serious threats to democracy in Sweden. The politicians emphasized that the issue concerns not Islam as a religion, but a political ideology.
The Sweden Democrats also demanded an end to state funding for organizations spreading radical ideas. Foreigners involved in such activities are proposed to be held accountable and deported.
The party supported an investigation into the extent of political Islam and religious radicalization in the country. The authorities intend to determine how broadly Islamist structures influence society.
The politicians also advocated for tougher anti-terrorism laws and expanded police powers in combating extremism.
