Authorities give Moldovan deputy prime minister tour of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi was shown the damaged Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and briefed on plans for its restoration.
On August 4, 2026, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi visited the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, where officials gave him a guided tour, according to a post on the reserve’s Facebook page.
The Moldovan delegation was welcomed by the reserve’s deputy director general, Kateryna Yehorova. The guests were shown the Lavra grounds and the Dormition Cathedral.
Representatives of the rreserve told Popșoi about the aftermath of the Russian attack on the night of June 15. According to them, the drone strike destroyed more than 80% of the cathedral’s roof.
The Moldovan deputy prime minister inspected the damaged cathedral and viewed a display devoted to the monument’s destruction and restoration.
The reserve said that the most urgent emergency stabilization work had already been completed. Around UAH 26.7 million is needed to conserve the cathedral, after which a technical assessment will be carried out and a restoration project developed.
As the UOJ previously reported, the authorities discussed the development of cultural routes at the Lavra with Epifaniy Dumenko.
