Irish prime minister given tour of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
Ostapenko showed the Irish prime minister an exhibition on the history of the Dormition Cathedral.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin visited the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra as part of his official trip to Kyiv. The head of the Irish government inspected the damaged Dormition Cathedral and was briefed on efforts to preserve the shrine.
At the monastery, he was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy Tetiana Berezhna, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Culture Tetiana Filevska, and Maksym Ostapenko, director general of the National Reserve.
Micheál Martin examined in detail the condition of the Lavra’s main cathedral, which has lost more than 80% of its roof. Preserve representatives showed the prime minister a panel exhibition on the cathedral’s history and described the extent of the damage to the architectural monument. At the end of the visit, Maksym Ostapenko presented the Irish politician with the illustrated book The Great History of the Great Church.
As the UOJ previously reported, Ostapenko accompanied a Vatican delegation to the Far Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
