Police fine organizers of religious procession to Boyany Monastery
Police issued two administrative citations to the organizers of a procession attended by thousands of pilgrims in the Chernivtsi Eparchy.
Police in the Chernivtsi region fined the organizers of a religious procession to the miraculous Boiany Icon of the Mother of God, which drew approximately 2,000 pilgrims, ZAXID.NET reports.
Bukovyna police said they had identified the individuals who organized the procession and issued two administrative citations under Article 185-1 of Ukraine’s Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of the procedures for organizing and holding assemblies, rallies, street processions, and demonstrations). Police cited the regional ban on mass gatherings imposed during martial law.
The traditional prayer procession took place on September 24. Each year, believers of the Chernivtsi Eparchy make a pilgrimage to the Boyany Monastery to venerate the miraculous icon of the Mother of God.
Carrying icons, the faithful set out from the outskirts of Chernivtsi and walk approximately 10 kilometers to the convent in the village of Boyany, Chernivtsi district. This year, an estimated 2,000–3,000 people took part in the procession.
As the UOJ previously reported, police also fined the organizer of a religious procession to the Slatina Monastery.
