UOC Primate leads Divine Liturgy on feast of Exaltation of Holy Cross
On the eve of the feast, the UOC Primate celebrated the All-Night Vigil with the Rite of the Exaltation of the Precious Cross.
On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Agapitus of the Caves, the UOC Information and Education Department reports.
The previous evening, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church celebrated the All-Night Vigil with the prescribed Rite of the Exaltation of the Cross.
Concelebrating the Divine Liturgy with His Beatitude were Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Chancellor of the UOC; Archbishop Mark of Borodianka, vicar of the Kyiv Metropolia; and the monastery clergy.
Following the reading of the Holy Gospel, His Beatitude delivered a sermon explaining the Church’s teaching on the power and significance of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
During the service, special prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine, deliverance from the enemy, and the protection of those who have lost their homes, as well as for wisdom for the authorities, courage for soldiers, healing for the sick, and the release of captives.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, the clergy performed the rite of glorification and venerated the Precious Cross. His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry extended his greetings to the faithful on the feast and bestowed his blessing upon them.
As the UOJ previously reported, the UOC Primate presided over celebrations at the Zymne Convent.
