In Aigio on the Peloponnese, a Divine Liturgy and a procession with the icon of Panagia Tripiti were held with the participation of hierarchs and a great multitude of faithful.

On April 17, 2026, celebrations in honor of the Tripiti Mother of God took place in the city of Aigio on the Peloponnese, marked by a solemn Divine Liturgy and a procession, Orthodoxia News Agency reports.

The celebration was dedicated to Panagia Tripiti – a miraculous 16th-century icon of the Most Holy Theotokos discovered in a coastal cliff in Aigio. The sacred image is kept in the church of the same name, built on the site of its discovery, and is venerated as one of the spiritual centers of the Peloponnese.

Numerous faithful and hierarchs of the Church of Greece took part in the service.

The Divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus and Phaleron. Concelebrating with him were former Metropolitan Ambrosios of Kalavryta and Aigialeia, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Thessaloniki, Metropolitan Philotheos of Neoionia, Metropolitan Serapion of Paramythia, as well as other hierarchs and bishops, including Metropolitan Ieronymos of Kalavryta and Aigialeia.

After the service, a procession with the icon of the Tripiti Mother of God made its way from the church to Holy Lavra Square. Taking part in the procession were clergy, representatives of the local authorities, members of the security services, students, and city residents. The procession was accompanied by the municipal philharmonic orchestra.

A prayer service was held in the square, after which Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Heraklion, and Chalkidona addressed those gathered.

At the conclusion of the celebrations, the miraculous icon was returned to the church aboard a military vehicle.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Romanian and Serbian Orthodox Christians in Serbia held a joint procession.
