In Nigeria, Islamists kill five Christians and abduct several people
In the Nigerian state of Kaduna, militants attacked Christian communities, killing five people, with dozens wounded and abducted.
Nigeria has faced a new wave of terrorist attacks on Christian communities. The latest incident occurred on May 21, 2026, in the Dangana District of Kaduna State, reports EWTN news.
Islamic militants killed five Christians at night, 10 were kidnapped, and two managed to escape through the efforts of the vigilante group. The Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna published a letter dated May 24, condemning the attacks on communities under the pastoral care of Sts. Peter and Paul parish.
Archdiocese Chancellor Christian Okewu Emmanuel reported on previous attacks: on March 2 in Kasaru-B, one person was killed, eight were abducted, two of whom later died in captivity. On May 1 in Sabon Gari, two were wounded, 10 people were kidnapped, one of whom was killed in captivity. The clergy called on authorities to strengthen protection of the population.
Since 2009, the Boko Haram insurgency has remained a major security challenge in the West African nation. In several parts of the country, violence has also been linked to armed Fulani herdsmen, also referred to as the Fulani Militia.
As the UOJ reported, 33 militants who killed believers in a church were detained in Nigeria.
