Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria hosted a meal for Muslim workers breaking their fast in the courtyard of the Patriarchate and thanked a sheikh for his “brotherhood.”

On March 10, 2026, Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria hosted an iftar in the courtyard of the Alexandrian Patriarchate – the traditional Muslim evening meal for breaking the fast during Ramadan. The occasion was meant as a gesture of gratitude to the Muslim workers restoring the historic Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Alexandria.

Among those present at the meal were Ioannis Pyrgakis, Consul General of Greece in Alexandria; Andreas Vafiadis, President of the Greek Community of Alexandria; Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jamal, representative of the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar University; and executives of the construction company Rowad.

In his remarks, the Patriarch stressed that the Muslim workers continue to labor with full dedication despite the rigors of the fast. Theodoros II also expressed special gratitude to the Al-Azhar representative, calling his presence “a living message of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and brotherhood.”

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also hosted an iftar during Ramadan.
