Bulgarian theologian calls silence over murder in Sviatohirsk grave sin
Bulgarian theologian Georgi Todorov called silence in the face of injustice and sin a grave apostasy in a conversation about the murder of a monk at the Sviatohirsk Lavra. The author and host of the program "Svetogled" on the "Zorana" radio dedicated an episode "The Pathology of Silence" to the tragic events at the Sviatohirsk Lavra, reports the UOJ in Bulgaria.
Georgi Todorov criticized the reaction of Bulgaria's official media and church institutions for completely ignoring the crime. The expert called on every person to begin with self-examination and ask the question of why they personally remain silent.
"Why are we silent, and why am I silent in particular? Georgi Todorov points to the problem. "A limited opportunity to influence events does not cancel a person's personal duty to stand up for the truth."
The theologian emphasized the difference between spiritual silence and silence in the face of injustice. According to him, in personal spiritual life, silence serves as the highest path to God, but concealing sin and the trampling of truth is considered by Orthodoxy to be a grave sin and moral apostasy.
"Even when our words do not change the decisions of those in power, they matter to our own conscience and to the people who hear them," Todorov concluded.
As the UOJ reported, a Bulgarian priest supported the UOC after the murder of a monk in Sviatohirsk.
