In Berezhany, UGCC given monastery where colony was located
The sacred building on the territory of the former juvenile colony will once again become a place of religious life.
The UGCC received for use the complex of the 18th-century Bernardine monastery in the city of Berezhany, Ternopil region. This was reported by head of Ternopil Regional State Administration Taras Pastukh on February 5.
The Church of the Pratulin Martyrs and cells located on the territory of the former correctional colony for minors were transferred to the UGCC. Previously, there was no free access to the church due to its location in a restricted facility.
Head of the Regional State Administration Taras Pastukh noted that the sacred structure had been in neglect for decades. He emphasized that the UGCC will become a responsible user.
The monastic complex was founded by Bernardine monks in the 17th-18th centuries. After Soviet rule, the buildings were nationalized and used for various purposes, including housing a correctional colony.
As the UOJ reported, an official was tried for transferring land to the Pochaiv Lavra in the Ternopil region.
