Ukrainians can now get divorced online
Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation has launched a new divorce service in the government’s Diia app. The new feature allows spouses who have no minor children together to complete the divorce process entirely online.
To dissolve the marriage, both spouses must consent. One spouse submits an application through the mobile app, and the other receives a request to confirm it. The system gives them exactly 12 hours to respond. The husband and wife then sign the document electronically through Diia.
The state registration of the divorce takes exactly 30 days. During that period, the spouses may withdraw their application. On the scheduled date, a state registrar holds a mandatory video conference with the couple.
The service costs UAH 2,872. The fee includes delivery of two paper divorce certificates via Ukrposhta. If there are property disputes, the former spouses must divide the property separately, either by mutual agreement or through the courts.
The traditional divorce procedure involving an in-person visit to civil registration offices will also remain available.
As the UOJ reported, Ukrainians were previously greeted on Halloween in Diia with fake draft notices.
