Phanar exarch in Lithuania discusses refugee support with Ukraine ambassador
Bishop Panaretos of Tamasos, Patriarchal Exarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Lithuania, met with Ukrainian Ambassador Olga Nikitchenko. The two discussed the situation in Ukraine and assistance for refugees at the Ukrainian Embassy in Vilnius, Orthodoxia News Agency reports.
The Phanar hierarch conveyed Patriarch Bartholomew’s warm wishes and blessing to the Ukrainian people. The greetings were extended on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, which had been celebrated shortly before the meeting.
The participants discussed the current situation in Ukraine, the consequences of the hostilities, and the resulting humanitarian and pastoral needs. The bishop and ambassador paid particular attention to support for Ukrainian refugees in Lithuania. They also discussed the religious needs of believers currently living in the country.
As the UOJ reported, Lithuania’s prime minister said the Phanar Exarchate serves as a source of support for Ukrainians in the country.
