Transgender activist arrested in U.S. over attack on Vance’s home
In Ohio, an activist – the child of Democratic Party donors – was detained after damaging the home of U.S. Vice President; the suspect has been charged with vandalism.
On January 6, 2026, U.S. authorities arrested a suspect in an attack on the home of U.S. Vice President James David Vance in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Associated Press reported the incident.
The detainee was identified as 26-year-old William D. DeFur, who identifies as a transgender woman. According to U.S. media reports, DeFur is the child of Democratic Party donors. His parents work in the medical field and have previously contributed to Democratic election campaigns, including the campaigns of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
The investigation found that DeFur damaged Vance’s home in the East Walnut Hills neighborhood, smashing four exterior windows. The property is valued at approximately $1.4 million, and the vice president’s family uses it as a second residence. The incident occurred shortly after midnight and was recorded by Secret Service agents, who noticed the suspect attempting to flee and immediately detained the person before handing the detainee over to Cincinnati police.
At the time of the attack, the house was empty – Vance, his wife, and their three children were in Washington. DeFur has been charged under multiple counts, including obstruction of official duties, unlawful entry, and vandalism.
It is also reported that last year a court found DeFur guilty in two vandalism episodes involving more than $2,000 in damages, ordering mandatory treatment and restitution.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Vance spoke out against attempts to exclude religion from public life, saying this runs contrary to the vision of the Founding Fathers.
