Vance explains why Christian values are the key to America’s future
The U.S. Vice President spoke out against efforts to remove religion from public life, saying this contradicts the Founding Fathers’ vision.
On October 29, 2025, U.S. Vice President James David Vance delivered an address at the University of Mississippi during a memorial ceremony for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. He emphasized that Christian values remain the moral backbone of American society and are crucial to the nation’s future, reports Fox News.
Vance said that a “properly rooted Christian moral order” can prevent America from descending into spiritual and social crisis.
“I make no apologies for thinking that Christian values are an important foundation of this country,” he declared. “Anybody who's telling you their view is neutral likely has an agenda to sell you. And I'm at least honest about the fact that I think the Christian foundation of this country is a good thing.”
The Vice President condemned attempts "to kick out God from the public square," noting that such efforts contradict the intent of the Founding Fathers.
“Anybody who tells you it's required by the Constitution is lying to you,” Vance stressed. “What happened, is, the Supreme Court interpreted ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion’ to effectively throw the church out of every public place at the federal, state and local level. I think it was a terrible mistake, and we're still paying for the consequences of it today.”
He also criticized modern liberalism, calling it “a perverted version of Christianity.” According to Vance, ideas of compassion and care for the weak, when stripped of their spiritual foundation, turn into an excuse for lawlessness.
“You can't just have compassion for the criminal. You also have to have justice too. Which is why I think that a properly rooted Christian moral order is such an important part of the future of our country,” he explained.
When asked about his interfaith household, Vance noted that though his wife is a Hindu, she shares his respect for the Christian faith, and they raise their children as Chrisitian.
“Most Sundays she will come with me to church. I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way. But if she doesn't, then God says everybody has free will, and so that doesn't cause a problem for me,” the politician said.
Concluding his speech, the Vice President said that Charlie Kirk had a strong impact on his own attitude toward faith. He noted that at least in part, Kirk moved him to be more vocal about his faith.
“But the reason why I try to be the best husband I can be, the best father I can be, the reason why I care so much about all the issues that we're going to talk about, is because I believe I've been placed in this position for a brief period of time to do the most amount of good for God and for the country that I love so much,” Vance emphasized.
