Fire breaks out at cathedral seized from UOC in Kremenets

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On March 19, 2025, a fire broke out at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Kremenets, which had been seized from the faithful of the Ternopil Eparchy of the UOC. According to the press service of the State Emergency Service (SES) in the Ternopil region, firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.

According to emergency services, the fire started at 08:56 in one of the cells on the cathedral grounds.

"A duty crew from Kremenets was immediately dispatched to extinguish the fire. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, preventing damage to the sanctuary," the statement reads.

Authorities have confirmed that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.

As previously reported by the UOJ, St. Nicholas Cathedral, which was confiscated from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and transferred to the state, has been turned into a restoration workshop.
