Metropolitan Nektarios: I felt deep shame over the events in Cherkasy

The Greek hierarch grieves over the seizure of churches and monasteries of the canonical Church.
Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, a hierarch of the Church of Greece, spoke about his views on church raiding in Ukraine and the emotions he experiences in connection with the forceful takeovers of UOC churches and monasteries. A video of his remarks was published on the Telegram channel of the Cherkasy Eparchy.
"I deeply grieve over such events as the seizure of churches and monasteries. I believe that such actions are entirely unbefitting of Christians, especially Orthodox Christians," the hierarch of the Church of Greece shared.
Metropolitan Nektarios noted that a representative of Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy, "who has endured terrible trials in his diocese," recently visited Corfu.
"The cathedral was seized, and people were beaten. I felt deep shame for those who committed these acts and immense sorrow for the metropolitan, who was placed under house arrest in his own home," he said.
The hierarch recalled that he had written a letter of support to Metropolitan Theodosiy and sent him a slipper of Saint Spyridon "so that it would protect the metropolitan and give him strength to endure these difficult times and the hostile actions of the schismatics against the canonical Church."
As previously reported by the UOJ, the Church of Greece hierarch has expressed its support for Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy.
