At the Archangel Michael Cathedral, which was taken from UOC believers, the OCU head held a “service” attended by regional and city officials.

OCU head Epifaniy Dumenko held a religious event at the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Cherkasy, which was seized from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. According to the Cherkasy Regional Council, a festive “liturgy” and “prayer service” were held at the cathedral before the relics of the Venerable Martyr Makariy of Kaniv.

The Regional Council’s official website reported that Dumenko was joined by First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council Roman Sushchenko, city officials, lawmakers, business executives, and members of the public.

After the cathedral was seized, the authorities designated it as a garrison cathedral. Before that, it had served as the cathedral of the UOC Cherkasy Eparchy. The church houses the relics of the Venerable Martyr Makariy of Kaniv, who suffered for the Orthodox faith in the 17th century.

As the UOJ reported, the UN Human Rights Committee said in its report that there had been no effective investigation into the events surrounding the seizure of the UOC cathedral in Cherkasy on October 17, 2024.
