The Georgian Union of Orthodox Journalists published comments from Georgian public figures on the murder of monk Barsanuphius (Turyansky) at the Svyatogorsk Lavra.
The head of the "Society of Chokha Wearers" at the Patriarchate of the Georgian Church, Zviad Sekhniashvili, called what happened "outrageous." "This terrible fact — when the Church, the clergy, and church figures are persecuted and oppressed for political purposes, and their lives are even threatened — is an absolutely revolting event. God grant that the brutally murdered monk may inherit the Kingdom of Heaven," he said.
Sekhniashvili also expressed hope for an end to the conflicts and the establishment of peace.
Rusudan Shaishmelashvili, a journalist for the Public Relations Service of the Georgian Patriarchate, called the murder of the monk a particularly tragic testimony to what is happening in the modern world.
"I want to respond to the tragedy that occurred on August 23 in Ukraine, specifically to the brutal murder of a monk at the Svyatogorsk Lavra. When such a thing happens in the 21st century, it is perhaps the Second Coming. For me, this is the Second Coming — the fact that a monk who devoted his entire life to Christ was killed so mercilessly," she stated.
As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported, a political technologist explained why the authorities are silent about the murder in Svyatogorsk.
