In Khmelnytskyi, TCC officers detained a priest of the Khmelnytskyi Diocese, Archpriest Vasyl Lysovyi, and mobilized him into the ranks of the territorial defense. This was reported by the Khmelnytskyi Diocese.
The priest was brought to the district TCC on the morning of July 22, where he underwent a military medical commission and received an assignment to a combat unit.
The diocese called on state authorities to investigate the circumstances of the detention and ensure compliance with the Constitution of Ukraine, which guarantees freedom of religion. The statement emphasizes that every priest, at the time of ordination, takes an oath before the Gospel, which precludes the taking of other oaths incompatible with pastoral duty.
The diocese also recalled that military service, which involves bearing arms and the possibility of shedding blood, is fundamentally incompatible with the priestly rank.
The clergy and faithful were called upon to intensify their prayers for a lawful resolution of the situation and the return of Father Vasyl to his flock.
