The OCU head said his structure has more than 90 monasteries but provided no updated figures on the number of monastics. The last publicly stated total – 233 monks – dates back to 2021.

At the OCU Bishops’ Council on July 14, Epifaniy Dumenko said his structure has more than 90 monasteries and convents but did not disclose the number of monks and nuns. This was reported on the OCU’s official website.

The last publicly announced figure for the number of monastics in the OCU was 233, given in 2021. More than 60 of them were bishops. The new report therefore makes it impossible to determine the current ratio between the number of monasteries and the number of residents.

The UOJ previously examined why the state-favored OCU has almost no monks, while their number continues to grow in the persecuted UOC.
