The clergy of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese took part in a festive divine service at an ancient shrine of the Romanian Church.

On July 10, 2026, the Putna Monastery in Romania hosted celebrations marking the 560th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of the monastery, founded by the holy right-believing voivode Stephen the Great. With the blessing of Metropolitan Meletiy, clergy of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese of the UOC, led by the dean of the Storozhynets deanery, mitred Archpriest Vasyl Kovalchuk, took part in the festive divine service. This was reported on the Facebook page of the faithful of the Chernivtsi Diocese.

On that day, a solemn Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the monastery church, presided over by the abbot of the monastery, Archimandrite Melchizedek (Velnik). During the service, prayers were offered for the repose of the founders and benefactors of the monastery, as well as of the researchers who contributed to the study of the history of the holy monastery.

The Putna Monastery is one of the most renowned Orthodox shrines in Romania. Founded by Saint Stephen the Great, the monastery has remained an important spiritual center and a place of prayerful veneration for centuries.

The faithful note that the joint prayer of representatives of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese of the UOC and the brotherhood of the monastery became a testimony to the centuries-old spiritual bonds and fraternal communion between the Orthodox communities of Ukraine and Romania.

As the UOJ reported, on July 2, 2026, the clergy of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese took part in a solemn divine service at the Romanian Putna Monastery on the occasion of the feast of the repose of Saint Stephen cel Mare, whose holy relics rest in this monastery.
