UOC Primate explains why humility makes a person strong
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry said that the path of humility opens a person to God’s help and leads to salvation.
On the feast day of Venerable Theodosius of the Caves, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, during a sermon at the Church of Venerable Agapit of the Caves in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, reminded the faithful of the spiritual feat of the great abbot and the importance of humility in a Christian’s life.
The Primate noted that Saint Theodosius from his youth strove toward God and became for monastics and laypeople an example of meekness, obedience, and selfless service. According to His Beatitude, despite the fact that the saint was abbot of the monastery, he did not avoid heavy labor and together with the brethren fulfilled the most simple obediences.
Metropolitan Onuphry drew special attention of the faithful to the spiritual power of humility. "Humility is the spiritual art of placing one's human weakness under the protection of Divine power," he said and explained that a humble person receives strength not from his own capabilities, but through the action of God's grace.
"When a person humbles himself before God and before people, he becomes strong and easily endures all the difficulties of this life," noted the Primate.
His Beatitude emphasized that it is precisely humility that helps a person find inner peace and salvation. "Humility makes a person happy here on earth, and makes him capable of being saved in heaven," said the Archpastor, calling upon the faithful to accept life's trials with gratitude and entrust themselves to God's providence.
As the UOJ previously reported, Metropolitan Onuphry said in an interview that the sin of war affects people’s spiritual condition.
