At Danivka Monastery, funeral service for eldest cleric of Chernigov Eparchy held
At a UOC monastery near Chernihiv, they bid farewell to a clergyman of the eparchy who dedicated 80 years of his life to the Church.
The Chernihiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church bid farewell to its eldest cleric, Archimandrite Irenei (Voronkov), on March 4, 2026. This was reported by the eparchial press service.
The funeral service was conducted at St. George's Church of the Danivka Monastery by the secretary of the eparchial administration, Archpriest Ihor Pidan, with the concelebration of the eparchy's clergy and guests from Nizhyn and Kyiv.
The service was attended by the monastery's abbess Pelagea (Filatova), the sisters of the convent, and numerous parishioners.
Archimandrite Irenei, Boris Feodosievich Voronkov in the secular world, was born in 1927 in the Gomel region. From his youth, he helped in the church, and in 1956 he was tonsured as a monk and ordained as a hieromonk. Father Irinei devoted almost 80 years of his life to serving God and people, bearing the priestly cross for more than half a century. In his final years, he resided at the Danivka Monastery, where he was received for retirement due to his health condition.
As the UOJ reported, the OCU created a clone of the Krupytskyi Monastery after the UOC expulsion.
