DESS initiates lawsuit to liquidate Korets Monastery
The State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) is seeking the liquidation of the Holy Trinity Korets Convent of the UOC.
On February 16, 2026, the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience filed a lawsuit with the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal of Ukraine seeking the termination of the activity of the Holy Trinity Korets Women’s Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). This was reported by the DESS press service.
The case has been scheduled for consideration at an open court hearing in the building of the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal at 8 Kniaziv Ostrozkykh Street, building 30, courtroom No. 3, in Kyiv. The hearing is set for March 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
As the UOJ previously reported, representatives of the OCU have indicated that they lay claim to the Korets Monastery. Following the issuance of DESS resolutions, several state and OCU church structures expressed interest in transferring the monastery complex to “another jurisdiction.”
