The Pontiff will consider the invitation to participate in the "Peace Council" established by the U.S. President.

On January 21, 2026, Pope Leo XIV received an invitation to join U.S. president Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace”. This was reported by Vatican officials citing a statement from the Holy See's Secretary of State, writes The European Conservative.

Speaking at a press conference in Rome, the Vatican Secretary of State confirmed that the invitation was officially received and conveyed to the Pope. According to him, the Vatican is currently considering possible further steps in connection with this proposal.

The Holy See's Secretary of State emphasized that the decision will not be made hastily. He noted that the matter requires time for detailed study and comprehensive consideration.

The Board of Peace is not a formal international organisation but a high-level political advisory forum launched by the United States in 2026. According to Donald Trump, its purpose is to provide guidance on post-war governance, security guarantees, and frameworks for international cooperation. Trump himself chairs the body, which brings together both American and international political figures.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the leader of Venezuela's opposition gave Trump her Nobel Peace Medal.
