SBU accuses His Beatitude of opposing “canonical independence”
The Security Service of Ukraine claims that Metropolitan Onuphry continues to support the policies of the Russian Orthodox Church.
On November 10, 2025, the SBU press service issued a statement regarding the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
The agency accused His Beatitude of “deliberately obstructing the canonical independence of the Ukrainian Church from the Moscow Patriarchate” and of “maintaining contact with the Moscow Patriarchate.”
“Despite the full-scale invasion, Berezovsky (Onuphry) continues to support the policies of the Russian Orthodox Church and its leadership, in particular Patriarch Kirill (Vladimir Gundiayev),” the SBU wrote.
The statement also boasted that “at the initiative of the Security Service, the Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, better known as the head of the UOC (MP) Onuphry, has been revoked.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to UOC lawyer Archpriest Nikita Chekman, during the annexation of Crimea 98% of SBU personnel became traitors.
