Archbishop Georgios of Cypros noted that until the final decision, Metropolitan Tychikos retains the presumption of innocence.

On June 18, 2025, Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus gave an interview to the Cypriot RIK TV channel, in which he spoke about the progress of Metropolitan Tychikos's appeal being reviewed by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. This was reported by the Orthodoxia news agency.

The Archbishop stated that the materials of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos's appeal have already been submitted to the hierarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and are awaiting review at the July session. He expects the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to be made within August.

Archbishop Georgios emphasized that until a decision is made, Tychikos is considered innocent, in accordance with the principle of the presumption of innocence.

It should be recalled that on May 22, 2025, the Synod of the Church of Cyprus decided to depose Metropolitan Tychikos from his see on charges of violating church discipline and administrative abuses. The hierarch himself did not recognize the legality of the decision and filed an appeal with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, pointing out serious procedural violations. According to the Metropolitan, there was no investigative commission, he was not presented with charges, nor was he given the opportunity to review the case materials and defend himself.

Supporters of the Metropolitan consider his actions a legitimate attempt to protect his reputation and rights, and he himself emphasizes his innocence and faithfulness to the Church.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Tychikos believes that the decision of the Synod of the Church of Cyprus to remove him from his see was made with canonical violations.
