The City Council Secretary claimed that the UOC represents “forces supporting aggression against Ukraine”.

On 9 April 2025, during an extraordinary 77th session of the Cherkasy City Council, deputies voted to confiscate land from the UOC under three church buildings, reports Council Secretary Yurii Trenkin.

Trenkin did not name the churches but listed their addresses: 30 Heroiv Dnipra Street, 39/1 Sumhaitska Street, and 18 Vikentii Khvoika Street.

According to Trenkin, “this decision is one of the key steps towards strengthening our spiritual independence and restoring justice”.

“We will no longer allow forces that support aggression against our country to operate under the guise of faith. Every inch of Ukrainian land must serve the interests of our people and not be used as a tool of influence by foreign states,” the Council Secretary declared, thanking all those who supported the decision.

“Glory to the Ukrainian Church!” Trenkin concluded, without clarifying which denomination he meant.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that according to Metropolitan Theodosiy, the actions of the Ukrainian authorities against the UOC are religious genocide.
