Tetris in the сhurch as a spiritual ruin
A small yet very telling detail from yesterday's seizure of the UOC's St. Andrew's Church in Cherkasy by the authorities.
A member of the commission tasked with inventorying the church's property – property to which neither the authorities nor the OCU have the slightest legitimate claim – sat on a bench playing Tetris. Meanwhile, just a few steps away, UOC believers were reading the Akathist in front of the relics of the Great Martyr Panteleimon. But neither the relics of one of the most revered saints in the world nor the prayer of his companion interested him. He came to the church to sit, play Tetris, and take part in the church raid.
And he's not just a Tetris enthusiast – he's a living embodiment of a certain type of Ukrainian who comes to take away the sacred from believers. He has no need for the church, no interest in icons, and no regard for the Church itself. His task is to drive out the "wrong" parishioners.
In the mid-17th century, Ukraine experienced a tumultuous period known as the "Ruin." It seems now we are witnessing a Spiritual Ruin.
