UOC hierarchs celebrated a festal service at the cathedral where the future St. Joasaph was baptized.

The 115th anniversary of the uncovering of the relics of St. Joasaph of Belgorod was celebrated at the Transfiguration Cathedral in Pryluky, Chernihiv Region.

Metropolitan Klyment of Nizhyn and Pryluky led the festal service at the cathedral. Concelebrating with the ruling hierarch were KDAiS Rector Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorodka, Archbishop Theodosiy of Ladan, Eparchy Secretary Archpriest Valeriy Dashko, Cathedral Rector Archpriest Mykola Kotelenets, and visiting clergy.

Following the Gospel reading, KDAiS lecturer Hieromonk Joasaph (Myronov) delivered the sermon. The hierarchs and clergy offered prayers for peace in Ukraine, deliverance from the enemy, the well-being of those who have lost their homes, and blessings upon benefactors providing assistance.

After the prayer behind the ambo, Metropolitan Clement congratulated the rector, clergy and faithful on the feast day of St. Joasaph of Belgorod. In response, Archbishop Sylvester thanked the head of the Nizhyn Eparchy for the invitation and the opportunity to pray together.

Following the Liturgy, the clergy and faithful held a cross procession to the monument to St. Joasaph, where they performed a rite of glorification and offered a prayer to the saint. At the conclusion of the celebration, the hierarchs and clergy served a memorial litia for fallen soldiers.

The history of the Transfiguration Church is closely connected with the earthly life of St. Joasaph. The future saint was born on September 8, 1705, in Pryluky to the devout Horlenko family. It was at the Transfiguration Church that he was baptized and given the name Joakim.

As the UOJ reported, the UOC marked the anniversary of the uncovering of the relics of Venerable Eutropia of Kherson.
