Helmiaziv church taken from UOC parish by court order
The court granted the claim of the Zolotonosha District Prosecutor's Office and transferred the 185-year-old Trinity Church of the UOC in the village of Helmyaziv, Cherkasy region, to state ownership.
The church was registered as private property of a legal entity; the basis for entering the record in the register was cited as the decision of the Helmyaziv Village Council dated April 22, 2014. However, the prosecutor's office claimed that this decision of the local authorities allegedly did not contain a single clause regarding the transfer of the church building to the ownership of the religious community.
In connection with this, the Zolotonosha District Prosecutor's Office filed a claim in court. The judicial body fully granted the demands of the agency, annulled the registration of private ownership of the Trinity Church, closed the corresponding section in the State Register, and ordered the return of the property to the state.
As the UOJ reported, the court opened proceedings regarding the property of the Cherkasy Eparchy of the UOC.
