Roads to be closed in Uman for Hasidic pilgrimage
City authorities will set up checkpoints and introduce strict controls at entrances to the city.
The Cherkasy Regional Administration will restrict vehicle access during the celebration of the Jewish New Year. Head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration Ihor Taburets announced that a special traffic regime will be in effect from September 4 through 17.
Officials will close access from the M-30 highway to Derevianka and Orekhova streets, as well as block entry from the village of Rodnykivka onto Pavlova Street. Drivers traveling along the Kyiv–Odesa highway toward Osvoboditeley Street will be allowed through only if they have pilgrim documents.
Law enforcement officers will set up reinforced checkpoints at key junctions. In particular, posts will be established at the intersection of Horodetska and Maksym Zalizniak streets, as well as at entrances from the villages of Rodnykivka and Horodetske.
The authorities have also banned the sale of alcoholic beverages, pyrotechnics, knives, other sharp or piercing objects, and air guns in the pilgrimage area.
As the UOJ reported, the security of the Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman is under the president’s personal oversight.
