In the Nizhyn Diocese, the Miraculous Borzna Icon of the Mother of God Was Venerated
A council of hierarchs and clergy of the UOC diocese celebrated the liturgy at St. Nicholas Cathedral in the city of Borzna.
On August 16, 2026, at St. Nicholas Cathedral in the city of Borzna, Chernihiv region, the feast day of the miraculous Borzna Icon of the Mother of God was celebrated — a local shrine of the Nizhyn Diocese. This was reported by the Chernihiv Diocese of the UOC.
On the feast day, hierarchs, clergy, and a multitude of faithful from across the diocese gathered before the image of the Most Holy Theotokos. The Divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Kliment (Vecherya) of Nizhyn and Pryluky, who also celebrated his birthday on that day. He was co-served by hierarchs and clergy of the UOC. The abbesses of the women's monasteries of the Nizhyn Diocese prayed at the service.
During the Liturgy, the clergy offered petitions for peace on Ukrainian soil and for deliverance from the enemy, that the Lord would preserve those who are in despair and have lost their homes, and would bless people of goodwill who help those in need. At the conclusion of the service, a rite of glorification with a prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos was performed before the venerated icon.
The Borzna Icon of the Mother of God is one of the revered shrines of the Chernihiv land. For centuries, the icon was kept in the Church of the Nativity of Christ in the city of Borzna and became renowned for numerous cases of healings. In the 20th century, the shrine was considered lost; however, in 2018 it was miraculously discovered and returned to the Nizhyn Diocese.
As the SPJ reported, the Nizhyn Diocese celebrated the patronal feast of the Hustynia Monastery.
