Israeli police officers arrive in Uman to protect Hasidic pilgrims
On September 5, Israeli police officers arrived in Uman to assist Ukrainian law enforcement in maintaining order and security during the Hasidic pilgrimage for Rosh Hashanah, the Cherkasy Region Police reported on its Facebook page.
The Israeli officers will remain in the city until the celebrations are over. Representatives of the two countries have already coordinated joint operations in areas where Breslov Hasidim are staying and making their pilgrimage.
The Israeli officers are conducting joint patrols and outreach among pilgrims alongside Ukrainian police, State Emergency Service personnel, and National Guard troops. Police said the situation in Uman remains stable and under control.
Rosh Hashanah will begin on the evening of September 11 and end on the evening of September 13. Around 40,000 Hasidic pilgrims are expected to travel to Uman this year to celebrate the Jewish New Year.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the U.S. State Department had urged American citizens not to travel to Uman for Rosh Hashanah.
