Vinnytsia authorities discuss safety of Hasidic pilgrims traveling to Uman
More than 30,000 Jewish pilgrims are expected to travel through the region for Rosh Hashanah.
Officials and law enforcement agencies in Vinnytsia coordinated security measures for the transit of more than 30,000 Hasidic pilgrims traveling to Uman. The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, will be celebrated from September 11 to 13, with the mass arrival of pilgrims beginning as early as September 6, the Department for Nationalities and Religions of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration reports.
Representatives of the regional department, the National Police, the Border Guard Service, and the Jewish community took part in a coordination meeting at the Center of National Cultures. A significant number of pilgrims are expected to travel through Vinnytsia region from airports in Moldova and Romania. They will cross the Ukrainian border at checkpoints in the Mohyliv-Podilskyi district and will also arrive by rail from Poland.
Officials paid particular attention to border-crossing procedures, coordination of traffic flows, and compliance with restrictions imposed under martial law. Participants also stressed the need to observe curfew rules and prevent prohibited items from being brought into the country.
“Under martial law, security remains the top priority,” said Yuliia Mandryka, acting head of the regional Department for Nationalities and Religions. “All responsible services must act in a coordinated manner so that the movement of pilgrims remains controlled and organized.”
Natan Bennun, president of the Rabbi Nachman Foundation, thanked representatives of the regional military administration for their preparations. He assured those present that the Jewish community would make every effort to ensure that pilgrims comply with safety regulations.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that DESS had discussed preparations for the Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman.
