A Ukrainian-Polish working group met in Lviv to discuss exhumation work, while Poland submitted a list of new sites where the operations are to be conducted.

On August 5, 2026, in Lviv, the Ukrainian-Polish working group discussed dignified burials, and Poland handed Ukraine a list of sites for further search and exhumations, reports the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

First Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Ivan Verbytskyi took part in the meeting. The parties reviewed the implementation of agreements reached at the previous working group session on December 16, 2025, in Warsaw.

Participants stated that Ukraine had issued all permits agreed upon during the December meeting. Representatives of both countries also positively assessed the results of works already carried out at approved sites on the territory of Ukraine.

During the session, the parties discussed practical difficulties arising in the search for and exhumation of remains on the territory of Ukraine and Poland, as well as further cooperation between the relevant institutions of the two states.

The Polish delegation handed the Ukrainian side a list of sites where the search for and exhumation of the remains of Polish victims is planned to continue. Applications have already been submitted for some of the sites, while for the rest the Polish side intends to submit them in the near future.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Zelensky instructed that all archives on the Volyn tragedy be opened.
