In the US, a former Democratic Party lawmaker was sentenced to 33 years in prison for possessing thousands of explicit images of young children.

In the United States, a court sentenced former transgender lawmaker Stacie Marie Laughton to 33 years in prison for receiving explicit images of young children that were secretly taken at a daycare center in Massachusetts. This was reported by Fox News.

The 41-year-old Laughton from the city of Nashua pleaded guilty to child sexual exploitation. The court established that the former lawmaker received explicit photographs of daycare children from his former partner Lindsey Groves. Groves, who worked at the Creative Minds preschool, had previously also received a prison sentence of 22 years.

The investigation found that between May 2022 and June 2023, Groves secretly photographed children between the ages of 3 and 5 in the bathroom during diaper changes. She then sent these images to Laughton via text messages. Law enforcement discovered more than 10,000 messages on the convicted individuals' phones in which images of child exploitation were discussed and shared.

Laughton was the first openly transgender person elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives as a Democrat. Despite the legal gender change, the Hillsborough County Correctional Facility administration confirmed that the convict will serve his sentence in the male unit.

As SPJ previously reported, a transgender US congressmember announced their ordination in a Protestant church.
