At Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, unidentified persons tore down an LGBT flag that the administration of the educational institution had placed on one of the buildings on the occasion of the so-called “pride month.” The incident was reported by the university’s Gender Equality Committee on Facebook.

Committee representatives called what happened “homotransphobic vandalism.” In the official statement, they emphasized that the destruction of the symbol would not negate the values of dignity and equality they promote.

Earlier, the publication about the raising of the flag at the university triggered a wave of criticism and harsh comments on social media. According to Professor Dimitra Kongidou, users’ reaction revealed the scale of resistance that remains in parts of society toward such initiatives.

The university administration believes that this case only confirms the need to continue the imposed agenda of inclusivity and the fight against discrimination.

As the UOJ reported, the Embassy of the Netherlands raised an LGBT flag in Kyiv.
