30-kilometer cross procession to Slatina Monastery takes place in Bukovyna
Pilgrims walked from Storozhynets to Slatina Convent in Bukovyna, praying for peace, the preservation of the Church, and Ukraine’s defenders.
On June 13, 2026, a 30-kilometer cross procession took place in Bukovyna from Storozhynets to the Krasnoilsk monastery on the eve of the feast of the Holy Great Martyr John the New of Suceava, the heavenly patron of Bukovyna. This was reported by a UOJ correspondent.
The prayerful procession ended at the walls of the monastery after covering about 30 kilometers. One of the churches of Slatina Monastery is consecrated in honor of St. John the New of Suceava, which is why pilgrims traditionally seek to meet his feast day at this monastery.
Along the entire route, the faithful offered prayers for peace on Ukrainian soil, for the preservation of the Church, and for God’s blessing upon all people. They prayed especially for Ukrainian soldiers defending their homeland and for the swift coming of a just peace.
Cross processions in Chernivtsi Region are a long-standing tradition among Orthodox believers in Bukovyna. Slatina Monastery in Krasnoilsk is one of the spiritual centers of the region. John the New of Suceava, who lived in the 14th–15th centuries, suffered martyrdom for confessing the Orthodox faith and is especially venerated in Bukovyna and Moldova. His memory is celebrated on June 14 (June 2 according to the old calendar).
