Vučić on pilgrimage to Belt of Theotokos in Belgrade: I am proud of such Serbia
The President of Serbia noted the atmosphere of peace and reverence for the shrine in the Saint Sava Cathedral.
The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said on the Serbian TV channel TV Prva that he is proud of the mass pilgrimage to the Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos, which has been available for veneration at the Saint Sava Cathedral in Belgrade for the 14th day, reports the eeod.gr website.
Vučić noted that although he is not a regularly practicing believer, he believes in God. According to the president, believers come to venerate from all corners of the country.
"More impressive than the number of pilgrims is the prevailing silence. This is spirituality, hope, faith and love," he said.
The President of Serbia also noted that in recent days the public has had the opportunity to see a “humble and dignified Serbia” – people who, through their faith in something not always visible or tangible, came in peace and reverence to venerate the sacred relic.
"When I see people who seek hope for themselves and their families, people who ask for help through veneration of the Holy Belt – and they do it so quietly and peacefully so that no one bothers anyone and not a single bad word is heard anywhere, – this is truly impressive and inspiring. I am proud of Serbia, such Serbia," he emphasized.
The head of state said that he intends to visit the Serbian Monastery of Hilandar on Mount Athos in the near future and recalled the substantial state support for the monastery. According to him, thanks to the adopted law, funding for the monastery has been secured for decades, and “after King Alexander Obrenović, we have done the most for Hilandar.”
As the UOJ reported, in Serbia almost half a million believers venerated the Holy Belt of the Theotokos.
