Gerhard Müller accused Vatican leaders of moving toward a “comfortable Christianity” to appease the spirit of the age.

German Cardinal Gerhard Müller has published a policy statement sharply criticizing the reports of the Synod working groups and the actions of the German episcopate in promoting the LGBT agenda.

In his letter, whose text was provided to LifeSiteNews, Müller said the Vatican is attempting to carry out a “paradigm shift” – replacing strict dogmatics with a “comfortable Christianity” that indulges human weaknesses instead of calling people to amend their lives.

The cardinal called the blessing of same-sex unions “fake” and “blasphemous,” saying it directly contradicts the biblical revelation of the creation of man as male and female. He stressed that the “homo lobby” within the Catholic Church is promoting an ideology that represents “a materialistic image of man without God.”

The cardinal denounced bishops and theologians who justify sin in the name of “mercy,” saying they are effectively replacing God’s order with their own pseudo-theologies mixed with sociology and psychology.

Müller compared the current situation to the ancient heresies of Manichaeism and Pelagianism, calling LGBT ideology a “destructive force” that leads to schism and the death of the life of grace.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the pope commented on the German cardinal’s decision on “gay blessings.”
