King of England: Christian faith is a firm anchor and community guide
King Charles III spoke of the role of Christian faith as a pillar of society and called for support for Ukraine in achieving a just and lasting peace.
On April 28, 2026, King Charles III of the United Kingdom addressed the U.S. Congress during a state visit, touching on issues of international security, alliance, and spiritual values, the New York Post reported.
In his speech, the monarch emphasized the importance of Christian faith in the life of society, calling it "a firm anchor and daily inspiration that guides us not only personally, but together as members of our community” amid the challenges of the modern world. According to him, faith and moral foundations help preserve social resilience "in these turbulent times."
“We find ourselves in a new era – more volatile and more dangerous,” the King said, adding that in such times it is especially important to rely on the spiritual values and traditions that have shaped Western civilization for centuries.
Charles III also described the U.S.–UK alliance as “irreplaceable and unbreakable” and stressed the need to renew this bond. He recalled the Christian roots of both countries and their influence on the formation of the principles of freedom, justice, and responsibility.
The monarch paid particular attention to support for Ukraine. “Unyielding resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine and her most courageous people – in order to secure a truly just and lasting peace,” he said, prompting applause in the chamber.
The King underscored the importance of NATO and noted that today’s threats require unity among allies. He also condemned political violence, saying such acts “will never succeed.” He also addressed the environmental challenges of the modern age.
In closing, Charles III quoted Abraham Lincoln: “The world may little note what we say, but will never forget what we do.”
