Ukraine’s foreign minister called the Ecumenical Patriarch’s statement on nuclear risks a strong moral appeal.

On April 27, 2026, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed gratitude to Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople for his remarks on the Chornobyl disaster. Sybiha’s statement was published by Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry on Facebook.

The head of the ministry stressed that Kyiv highly values the firm stance of the head of the Phanar. According to the diplomat, Bartholomew’s message was a timely reminder of the nuclear threats facing all of Europe.

Sybiha added that Ukraine supports the Patriarch’s call to protect civilian life and preserve the world from destruction.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the foreign minister praised the Phanar’s role in “strengthening Ukraine’s spiritual independence.”
