Hundreds of faithful in Georgia mark ancient Tsachkhuroba festival
On Bright Thursday, hundreds of pilgrims gathered to pray for the gift of children.
On April 16, 2026, Georgia observed one of its most unusual traditional church festivals – Tsachkhuroba. This centuries-old custom unfailingly brings hundreds of married couples to the Chkondidi Eparchy on Thursday of Bright Week, the UOJ in Georgia reports.
The central feature of the feast is the offering of children’s cradles in church. On this day, both married couples struggling with infertility and those who have already become parents come to Salkhino.
According to the custom, couples who have already had children leave their cradles in the church as a sign of gratitude, while childless families take them home after they have been blessed.
It is said that many believers became parents after taking part in the feast. Pilgrims believe that through prayers offered before the shrines of Salkhino, the Lord grants them the long-awaited gift of children.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Georgian Church had set the date for the election of three candidates to the throne.
